I imagine I'm about the only person in the universe at the moment not reading the latest Harry Potter this weekend. :) But I expect I'll be shutting myself away next weekend to read it. The reason is that [personal profile] elgrey  the Magnificent sent me the UK version for my birthday, so it hasn't arrived yet. But that's okay because I've got the entire set in the UK version, thanks to her, and the Nephew and Nieces got my American collection (also thanks to her!). So I am very happy to wait until it gets here. I only need to be carefuly of spoilers, and so far everyone is being very considerate and careful about that.

In the meantime, I finished Inkspell, the sequal to Inkheart, and this series has easily become one of my favorite book worlds ever.  [personal profile] elgreyand I just found out this morning that the author, Cornelia Funke, is going over the final draft of the last in the series and we should be getting it in English in 2008. I really can't wait.

I absolutely love stories about people interacting in book worlds. I was fascinated by Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next novels. Which reminds me, I need to see if there's a new one out there. I've got 4 of them, and I thought I heard something about a new one coming out in the not-so-distant future. Must investigate...

In the meantime, I hope to finish up The Golden Compass (aka Northern Lights to everyone but Americans, apparently) by Philip Pullman before Harry Potter shows up at my front door. Golden Compass has been on my bookshelf for ages, and its time has finally come.

I'm probably the only person in the world who's never read, or had any desire to read the HP books, or see the movies. No clue why, just don't.

I just finished re-reading a series by Wen Spencer about Ukiah Oregon. It starts with Alien Taste and ends with The Dog Warrior. They're fantastic and if you haven't read them, I highly recommend them.

Oh-- tell [ profile] elgrey I got a call from my local library friday telling them that a girl who'd read the Chardras books I'd donated loved them and wanted to know when #3 was coming out. The librarian said the books have been checked out quite a lot! Nice, eh? Hopefully some people have gone ahead and bought them!

Oh very cool. I will definitely let her know, thank you! She really is hard at work on Book III, and believe me I'm as anxious for her to finish it as anyone!

And thank you for the book rec. I checked it out on Amazon and it definitely looks like a series to add to my ever-growing 'To Read' list. :)

Hey, Deej! Thank you so much for donating those books to your local library. It's incredibly kind of you. You've done so much to promote them and to try to get people to buy them and are generally a saint in human form.

Book Three should be out for Christmas, although I'm afraid to say it in case I jinx it, but that's the plan at the moment. I'm overhauling what I've done so far and sorting out where various scenes need to go in the previous chapters, and then I have one further chapter to write, and then, obviously, it will have to be edited. Book Four should be a lot quicker to write, and that will complete the quest arc Our Heroes are on at the moment, and then the tentative plan with the publisher is to do another three after that, in the same world with the same characters, but dealing with a new problem, so, we'll see how it goes. (Book Three is called 'The Iron Crown' btw and Book Four is 'The White Tower'.)

I hope it arrives soon so that we can talk about it. Fingers crossed that it's winging its way to you across the Atlantic. I was very impressed with getting 'The Deathly Hallows' to me on July 21st as they promised. That must have been a massive operation to get all of those books out on time.

I really hope you enjoy the His Dark Materials trilogy as much as I did. It's a very exciting time with so many fantasy novels being made into films. There were so many years when it felt like there was never going to be another fantasy film made with any kind of budget and there would only be the old Ray Harryhausen films (which I still love) to watch on a permanent loop forever. Now, post the Lord of the Rings films and with the success of the Harry Potter films, we have the Narnia stories being filmed, Inkheart, Northern Lights, and the Susan Cooper books all being filmed, not to mention HP VI and HP VII still to come. Now, if only someone would make a decent live action version of Lloyd Alexander's Chronicles of Prydain....
